FRED Fun Fact - Patron Goddess THEMIS

The Founders chose Themis to represent the Fraternity. Themis is, in Greek mythology, one of the Titans, daughter of Gaea (Earth) and Uranus (Heaven), and the mother of the three Fates and the Seasons. The goddess of divine justice and law, Themis was the constant companion of the god Zeus and sat beside him on Olympus. In ancient art she is represented holding aloft a pair of scales on which she weighs the claims of opposing parties

Bunco Fundraiser

I learned this idea from the Martin Area Alumnae - I think they might try this for the Spring.
I thought it was a really cool idea so I would share.
Many Thanks Misty Jo Phipps - She gets all the credit on this one.

For those of you who do not know, Bunco is a dice game that involves 4 people playing per table. It is an easy game to catch on to, but it is lots of fun!!! I am in a group myself that consists of 15 other women who would be very excited to participate. I think this could be a very successful fundraiser that would be very easy to continue from year to year and would be a fun “Girls Night Out” for all ages. Below is a list of items that we would need to purchase as well as some other items that we will need if we do decide to do this fundraiser.
Items we will need to purchase:
3 dice per table
4 pens per table (4 of these pens must be red to go at the head table)
1 small scratch pad per table to keep score
Score card for each player (print these off the computer)
Door prize tickets
Bell for head table
Décor for the theme
“Necklaces” for players when they roll a Bunco (should go with theme of the night)
Prizes for the following categories:
Most Buncos
Most points
Most wins
Most losses
Best costume (if we choose to have players dress up to go along with theme)
We will need the following items as well:
Venue – perfect venue would be one that already has tables & chairs set up for 4 people per table; the high school here in Fulton is set up perfect for that, but I think it would be better to do this event in Martin
Caterer – I was thinking that BBQ plates might go over well, and I should be able to get us a deal on those. The one I attended in Jackson served Mexican food so that is also another idea. Any other suggestions?
Silent auction items
Door prizes
T-shirts
Theme
Charity
Possible speaker for the event depending on the charity we choose

San Antonio Alumnae Chapter Mission

Yes I look at many alumnae websites for ideas! I came across this on the San Antonio Alumnae Chapter's Website. I thought it was great and all alumnae chapters should strive for a mission like this.

It is our mission not only to strengthen the sisterhood bonds that began in college, but also to facilitate a community that shares service, friendship and fun. As an alumnae chapter, we provide support to collegians and to each other. Besides, we just have a great time together.

Christmas Party Ideas

Ho! Ho! Ho! Having an alumnae Christmas Party? Why not have an ornament exchange. Everyone brings a wrapped ornament and you stand in a circle pass the ornament to the left or write when the word left or right is said. There are many examples on various websites.
Google: left right ornament exchange.
Why not add it to your sisterhood event!

Martin Area Alumnae Chapter

Great meeting on Saturday! Thanks to everyone who came.
Info coming soon to all Martin Area alumnae and Delta Mu Alumnae.

Martin Alumnae Chapter Interest/Officer/Programming Meeting

Dear Wonderful Alumnae,

Over the past few months we have been busy helping Delta Mu with their work week, recruitment, and supporting the new members. It's now time to work on Zeta Is Forever. It's time to jump start the Martin alumnae chapter. I'm hoping this alumnae chapter will not only include Martin but also include surrounding cities and many Delta Mu alumnae who do not live in the area. We need everybody to support alumnae chapters. My hope is the least anyone can do is be a dues paying member.

Jennifer Miller has agreed to move the alumnae chapter forward with the help of many alumnae.
If you have any desire to be an alumnae chapter officer, advisor to the chapter, or head up special committees such as Quad City, Homecoming, and Think Pink Walk please email me at ztamelissa@gmail.com.

I will be hosting an interest/officer/idea sharing meeting on Saturday Sept 19th at 10AM. The meeting will be at the Beta Omega Lodge on the Union University Campus in Jackson. I'm hoping this will be a central location for those who live in Memphis, Jackson, Martin, Lexington, etc. This will be the meeting that kicks off programming, alumnae collegiate activities, Quad City, Think Pink walk, alumnae recruitment, etc. Come with ideas. Decisions on the future of the alumnae chapter will be decided. This is your alumnae chapter, so think outside the box.

Please RSVP to ztamelissa@gmail.com. I want to make sure I have enough prizes for my new friends! :-) You do not have to attend to be an officer, advisor, etc. Just let me know what you would like to do.

A facebook group, membership information sheet, potential yahoo email group, and info on upcoming events will be coming soon.

Please feel free to forward this email to all your friends of the Martin Alumnae.

I can't thank you enough for your support of Zeta Tau Alpha and Delta Mu Chapter.

Yoplait Lids

START COLLECTING Yoplait Lids! It's a competition between District 16A & 16B!

Why Not?

Brandi Elmore, President of Tri-Cities, TN Alumnae Chapter shared this from the book Inspiration for Greeks.

Why Not?
People often ask me why I stay involved in my sorority. I have a simple answer- why not? Why not continue the bonds of sisterhood that I enjoyed during college? Why not challenge myself to take on projects and to learn new skills? Why not meet incredibly strong and bright women from across the country? Why not share experiences with women who are twice my age or half my age? Why not revel in the joy of watching a collegiate sister finally grasp a concept? Why not meet new friends who will take you to places of which you would have neverimagines? Why not have friendships that see one another through successes, failures, laughter, tears, joys, sorrows, births, deaths, marriages, divorces, promotions, firings, sickness, and health? Why not take a day of vacation from work to attend a university disciplinary hearing for your chapter? Why not support a sister who is in an abusive relationship or has an eating disorder ora drinking problem? Why not enjoy the love and joy of shared goals and a commonvision? Why not have your own personal board of directors to which you can turn in any situation and at any moment? Why not hold the hand of a sister as she buries a parent, her husband, or a child? Why not sing to a sister as she dances with her new husband at their wedding? Why not serve as a mentor for younger members? Why not get back more than you can ever imagine possible?
Why not, indeed?

University of TN Recruitment

As many of know, I'm the Membership Advisor for UTK.

Here is some info if you would like to help out.

I know alumnae want to help during actual recruitment parties however due to the ageing Panhellenic building and fire codes only 70 collegiate women and very limited advisors/alumnae can be present in the suite. The alumnae in the suite are National Officers, membership advisor, and co-membership advisor. Recruitment has become no frills with minimum food. However you can help in other ways. See below. If all you can do is a plate of brownies, the girls will greatly appreciate it.

Recruitment Dates
August 12-14 recruitment workshop
August 16 Open House
August 17-18 Round I - Philanthropy
August 20-21 Round II - Skit
August 22 Pref
August 23 Bid Day

Recruitment Help
Dinner for the girls each night.
Supply kit including breath mints, band aids, feminine hygiene, etc.
Brownies, cookies, candy during voting - the girls love homemade food.
Provide happies/gift for prizes during recruitment week
Snacks, sodas, and bottled water for recruitment retreat in Pigeon Forge (August 12-14)
Notes of encouragement
Encourage alumnae to fill out MIS forms and submit to me
